“Working for the Alliance has taught me about public health, which includes healthcare access and community well-being. Through our action group, I have learned about creating health equity by collaborating with academics and community members and sharing resources online. It has deepened my understanding of the issues I care about and helped me grow professionally with feedback from higher-ups. “What I encountered in this space was an extremely powerful message of community-led action and health equity. Through attending action group meetings with leading experts in their respected fields and community leaders, I learned the value of these collaborations as knowledge was shared as well as community action items. The Alliance worked on a shared policy platform where I learned about current public health policy as well as ways to ways to engage in the civil process to move policy forward. I also gained valuable insights from higher-ups in their respective fields of public health in terms of initiative, problem-solving, and leadership. Based on my own reflections, I feel empowered and knowledgeable on public health action within California and I look forward to future endeavors to further delve into the field of public health.”
